Personal data collected

BBQ Pilot does not require an account, does not include advertising and does not sell personal data.

The app stores data needed for local operation on the device, including favorites, cooking history, preferences, paired Bluetooth thermometers, image cache and the content database. This data stays on the device and is not sent to the app owner.

To improve stability and quality, BBQ Pilot uses Firebase Crashlytics to collect crash logs and technical diagnostics when malfunctions occur. This may include stack traces, app state at crash time, app version, operating system and device information, Firebase installation identifiers and diagnostic logs not linked to a user account.

BBQ Pilot includes Firebase Analytics, but usage event collection is disabled by default. Users can enable or disable it in app settings. When enabled, Analytics may collect aggregated events about visited screens and used features, app instance technical identifiers and approximate data derived from network information, such as masked IP address.

Third-party services

BBQ Pilot uses Firebase services provided by Google Ireland Limited / Google LLC for optional analytics and crash reporting. Firebase processes data according to the applicable Google/Firebase policies and terms.

Network connections

The app uses Internet access to download the dataset manifest, update the content database and load public images from assets.bbq-pilot.com, distributed through Cloudflare/R2.

As with any web service, the hosting/CDN provider may process technical logs needed for security, content delivery and service diagnostics.

Permissions used by the app

  • Internet: download datasets and public images.
  • Bluetooth: discover and connect compatible BLE thermometers.
  • Location on Android 11 or earlier: required by the operating system for BLE scanning; BBQ Pilot does not use the user geographic location.
  • Notifications: cooking alerts, temperature alarms and monitoring status.
  • Foreground service: continuous thermometer reading during guided cooking.
  • Scheduled alarms, vibration and wake lock: reliability for timers and cooking alerts.

Sharing, retention and deletion

BBQ Pilot does not share personal data with advertisers, ad networks or data brokers. Technical services used to distribute public content, collect crash reports and manage optional analytics may process technical data only to provide, protect and improve those services.

Local data stays on the device until the user clears app data or uninstalls BBQ Pilot. Analytics consent can be changed at any time in app settings.

Children

BBQ Pilot is not specifically intended for children and does not knowingly collect personal data from children.
